The Guidance Function closes
As part of the joint public initiative “The Research Health Data Gateway” and with funding from the national level, the research support unit OPEN in the Region of Southern Denmark has managed the project the “Guidance Function”. The purpose of the Guidance Function has been to offer first-level guidance on the frameworks and requirements that researchers may encounter when applying for projects and requesting access to health data.
During the period 2021-2023, the Guidance Function has provided direct guidance to researchers and created several supporting products for the benefit of researchers and clinicians, including guides for data access, approval process procedures for all project and approval types, and webinars, among others.
The “Guidance Function” project concludes at the turn of the year, and the materials and collected experiences gathered are handed over to the Danish Health Data Authority and the Ministry of the Interior and Health, so it can be incorporated into further work on the “Vision for Better Use of Health Data”.

Questions regarding research support for researchers in the Region of Southern Denmark can be directed to OPEN OPEN – Open Patient data Explorative Network – forside (rsyd.dk). OPEN’s services for researchers in the Region of Southern Denmark continues unchanged.
The Guidance Function will continue normal operations until the end of 2023 and will still be available for guidance, newsletter distribution, and website maintenance. The website is expected to remain accessible in 2024 as well.
OPEN expresses gratitude for the trust placed in us by the joint public working groups and steering committees. We are pleased to have assisted the numerous users who have utilized the Guidance Function’s website and received direct guidance.
